As Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani hosts Twitter Townhall today, fixed pay & quota stir trend
Even as Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani readies to host his first ever Twitter Townhall today — he had announced this on Twitter last week — questions on “fixed pay” seemed to trend since September 15 when the Townhall was announced.
The recent increase in the incidents of Dalit violence in the state, the Patidar movement for reservation and questions on fixed pay seemed to be the dominant threads and comments that Twitterati posted as Rupani’s official twitter handle called in for questions with the hashtag #AskVijayRupani ahead of the “Townhall”.
Rupani is slated to give replies to a few queries starting 10 am on Friday morning. Many leaders from the state also took to Twitter to field questions on “fixed pay” issue to the CM. Senior state AAP leader Kanubhai Kalsaria tweeted, “#AskVijayRupani the constitution provide rights of ‘equal pay for equal work’,#fixpay violate this right. Do you remove #fixpay ? YES/NO”

Similarly, Dalit rights activist Jignesh Mevani, who tweeted 10 questions ahead of the Townhall, wrote, “Despite claim of Rs 32
million crores investment in the state of Gujarat, more than 2 lakh employees in fixed pay system are denied minimum wages. why?” Armed with the hashtags #Fixpay #RemoveFixPay, many government employees and citizens also took the Twitter route to express their dissatisfaction regarding the five- year fixed pay system that covers more than 2 lakh temporary government employees and called it “anti-constitutional move”.
Many lamented on the no-hike policy due to the fixed pay system and wrote about the High Court order and demanded a full pay with PF benefits from Rupani. Pragna Patel —@prags2715 — tweeted “#Askvijayrupani #fixpay Respected CM Sir plz remove the fix pay system. It’s very difficult to manage family with this limited income.”
